Hotels in Buffalo, NY
Enjoy life on the lake with all the culture and conveniences of a big city in Buffalo, New York, a large metropolis located on the shores of Lake Erie just south of Niagara Falls. Once a blue-collar industrial city known for its steel mills and auto factories, Buffalo has evolved to become the cultural capital of western New York state with a bustling theater scene, renowned art galleries and museums, diverse ethnic communities and a lively restaurant and bar scene. That, combined with Buffalo’s many parks and natural areas, several professional sports teams and close proximity to the world-famous tourist attractions of Niagara Falls, makes Buffalo a popular place to stay and play any time of year.
ORIENTATION
As New York State’s second largest city–behind the Big Apple, of course–Buffalo is easily accessible. The Buffalo International Airport offers regular flights to many nearby cities, and several major highways connect it to the rest of New York State, as well as southern Ontario, which is located just across the river.
DOWNTOWN BUFFALO HOTELS & MOTELS
Historic Buffalo is best explored in the downtown core, which is not only the cultural hub of the city but also a great place to take in the renowned architecture of the city, much of which was designed by the famous Frank Lloyd Wright. Every decade of Buffalo’s rich heritage is captured here, especially in the Allentown District, where Victorian mansions line the streets, and visitors have the chance to stay in one by booking a room at the Mansion on Delaware Avenue. Perhaps Buffalo’s grandest hotel, the Mansion has the large windows, ornate detailing and plush furnishings that gave the Victorian era such a reputation for elegance. It also has another feature that’s often absent from current hotels: Several old-fashioned butlers on staff who will take care of your every need.
However, if the Mansion is out of the budget, don’t fret–there are many other choices in downtown Buffalo, including several brand-name hotels, many of which congregate in the theater district. Another popular choice is the grand Adams Mark Hotel, situated right on the waterfront on Church Street, offering a stunning banquet hall and unparalleled views of the lake at surprisingly affordable rates. History buffs, on the other hand, should head to North Street, where the Lenox Hotel has been providing comfortable and reasonably-priced accommodations since 1896.
BUFFALO HOTELS & MOTELS WEST OF DOWNTOWN
There’s more to Buffalo than the downtown core, however. The area just west of downtown is a popular place to settle in as it’s close to attractions like the impressive Walden Galleria Mall, the Buffalo Zoo and more. The elegant Galleria Inn and Suites, seven minutes from the Galleria Mall, is a great option in this part of Buffalo, featuring amenities like a pool, hot tub, fitness center and complimentary breakfast. Nearby, the Moreland Guest House is a unique choice in the area; it’s a converted convent that now offers minimalistic budget accommodations.
HOTELS & MOTELS NEAR BUFFALO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The Buffalo International Airport is located not far from Galleria Mall and offers a number of nearby chain hotels, as well as the Grand Hotel on Transit Road, an accommodation choice that lives up to its name with a selection of well-appointed guest rooms and suites, as well as a fine on-site steak restaurant for hungry travelers. South Buffalo is also popular with visitors, especially those who come to take in a Buffalo Bills game at the Ralph Wilson Stadium. Heading north towards Tonawanda and Ontario will open up many more accommodation options for travelers, especially in Niagara Falls where tourism is rampant and hotels are plentiful.
